External hemorrhoids are hemorrhoids that are located outside the anal verge, as opposed to internal hemorrhoids that occur inside the anal canal. External hemorrhoids are often painful, as they occur in an area where there are pain receptors, and are prone to rupturinging which causes thrombosed external hemorrhoids (bleeding hemorrhoids). Because of the difference in location, external hemorrhoids require different treatment methods than internal hemorrhoids. This article will discuss the various options for external hemorrhoid treatment.

External hemorrhoids are most easily treated at home, compared to other hemorrhoids. The use of a rubber tube cushion, which relieves pressure on the buttocks when sitting, will help a great deal in hemorrhoids curing themselves naturally, especially if you feel pain or pressure on the hemorrhoid when sitting. The use of an icepack on the area will reduce swelling in the hemorrhoid and relieve pain. Additionally, to cause the blood vessels to relax, as well as cleaning the area, the use of warm water through a bath, bidet, or shower head will help provide relief for bleeding hemorrhoids, and is a good thrombosed external hemorrhoid treatment.

If doing the above mentioned methods don’t help the problem clear up by itself, further external hemorrhoids treatment will be needed.

There are many creams available in the market that are made as external hemorrhoid treatments. These include moisterizers, pain relievers (analgesic), creams that narrow the blood vessels to enable the hemorrhoid to heal (vasoconstricors), and creams that contain corticosteroids to help in recovery. All of these creams are available for use at home, and need to be applied over a period of time to cure hemorrhoids.

A surgical procedure might be the best way to treat external hemorrhods

If the hemorrhoids are really a problem for you, or aren’t responding to other treatments, there are other methods for the treatment of external hemorrhoid. These are surgical procedures. A surgical method to reduce hemorrhoids is the use of electrolysis, in the form of hemorrhoidolysis. This involves passing electrical currents to the hemorrhoids, through electrodes, which causes shrinkage of the hemorrhoid tissue. Another surgical procedure is the injection of a hardening agent into the hemorrhoids to cause the vein walls to collapse so the hemorrhoid falls off. Unfortunately, rubber band ligation (rubber banding), a common hemorrhoids treatment, is only useful for treating internal hemorrhoids.

Aside from the treatments mentioned above, a fibre rich diet is important to create softer stools that don’t irritate the hemorrhoids. Additionally, exercising and spending time not sitting down, will also releive pressure on the hemorrhoids and aide in recovery and prevent further cases of hemorrhoids from occuring.

Hemorrhoid Banding, also known as rubber band ligation, is a method used to remove hemorrhoids. It is a simple process that works how it sounds. A tight band is placed around the hemorrhoid, with the aim of constricting blood flow. This causes the hemorrhoid to shrivel up and fall off, and in the process the hemorrhoids banding falls off as well.

This form of hemorrhoid treatment is only performed on second degree hemorrhoids. Rubber band litigation is the most successful non-surgical treatment for hemorrhoids, as it relieves symptoms in 4 out of 5 cases. Hemorrhoid banding is only used on internal hemorrhoids, as external hemorrhoid banding doesn’t work. For treatment of external hemorrhoids, that don’t clear up by themselves, surgery will be required.

The procedure is fairly simple. The doctor will probably prescribe antibiotics in the lead up to the banding. when performing the procedure, the patient will need to draw his knees up to his chest so that the buttocks are easily accessed and the anus is spread. Then the doctor will insert a proctoscope into the anus. He will then use a forceps (procedural tongs) to hold the hemorrhoid while the ligator is placed over it. The ligator is then pushed against the base of the hemorrhoid and the band is released.

The hemorrhoid will take between one and two weeks to shrivel up, and drop off – it, and the rubber band, will be passed with a normal bowel movement.

In conclusion, rubber band ligation works well on grade 2 external hemorrhoids. It is a popular method of treatment, as an alternative to surgery, as it saves money and recovery time that is required if the hemorrhoids are removed by surgery.

People who are suffering from the condition of having hemorrhoids have many different options for treatment. The best course of hemorrhoid treatment can be decided upon once the severity of the hemorrhoids has been understood. This will enable you, or your doctor, to choose the best treatment for hemorrhoids according to you particular circumstances.

Before going into great detail about the various methods of hemorrhoidal treatment, it should be noted that most cases clear up by themselves, without the need for specialized attention. Simple things like increasing the fiber in the diet, washing the anus thoroughly, and not putting pressure on the affected area will be enough when the infestation isn’t severe.

When trying to alleviate pressure on the hemorrhoids, you can use a rubber tube cushion to sit on. This removes downward pressure from the anus so the brunt of the weight when sitting is taken by the thighs and lower-back. The use of an icepack could also relieve symptoms, and can be used for bleeding hemorrhoid treatment. It is also important to ensure that your poos are easily passed, with minimal straining and irritation against the hemorrhoids. This can be achieved by keeping hydrated and eating lots of fiber.

And it goes without saying that prevention is the best form of treating hemorrhoids, which should be done by using the above advice about diet as well as ensuring you’re doing enough exercise. So, now on to different methods and procedures of hemorrhoid treatments.

HEMORRHOIDECTOMY

A hemorrhoidectomy is pretty much the removal of hemorrhoids by surgery. Patients who undertake this process complain about pain during recovery from hemorrhoidectomys, so these are only used in cases of severe hemorrhoids, and/or when other treatment is deemed unsuitable.

AN ENEMA

An enema is a procedure where the anus is cleaned. This is a procedure all on its own, not specifically used to treat hemorrhoids, but the use as a hemorrhoids treatment is effective as a cleaner anus decreases the chance of infection and re-occuring hemorrhoids.

INFRARED COAGULATION

This is a commonly used hemorrhoid cure that is easily available. Basically, an infrared beam is used to cauterize (freeze-burn) the hemorrhoids, leaving a less painful, and more easily healed wound. This is a good external hemorrhoid treatment, due to easy access with the cauterizing instruments.

INJECTION THERAPY

Or the official term, Sclerotherapy, is the injection of a hardening agent, Sclerosant, into the hemorrhoids. This hardens the blood vessels there, ceasing bloodflow from veins, causing the hemorrhoid to shrivel, die and eventually fall off.

HEMORRHOID BANDING

Also known as Baron ligation, this is a process whereby a rubber band is tightly fitted around a hemorrhoid in order to cut the blood supply so that it shrivels, dies and is excreted with a bowel movement. This method is used exclusively on internal hemorrhoids.

TRANSANAL HEMORRHOIDAL DEARTERIALIZATION

Or as an abbreviation, THD-HP. This sounds very complex, but if you piece together the words it is really self explanatory. This is a procedure where the arteries that lead to the soft tissue where hemorrhoids grow are cut short, so that less blood flow reaches the swollen hemorrhoid, and it has a chance to contract.

CONCLUSION

There are many avenues open for people in need of hemorrhoids treatment. The above list are the mainstream methods that a doctor will recommend, depending on the severity and circumstances of your hemorrhoid problems. Another thing to take into consideration when deciding on a treatment for hemorrhoids is cost – some surgical procedures can be very expensive, whilst others, like coagulation, are a cheaper option. Professional advice from a doctor is always recommended before seeking a hemorrhoid cure, but knowing the options before seeing a physician is beneficial.

A thrombosed hemorrhoid is simply a hemorrhoid that has succumbed to thrombosis (the rupturing of a vein or blood clot). This process is more likely to happen in external hemorrhoids, located outside the ‘anal verge’, as the process of wiping the anus after excrement, wearing tight clothing, and sitting down, could all lead to thrombosis. If the thrombosis occurs in an external hemorrhoid, it is called a thrombosed external hemorrhoid.

CAUSES

There are many causes that are linked to hemorrhoids. Straining during bowel movements, caused by diarrhea or constipation, is linked as a primary cause of hemorrhoids. To avoid this, you should eat foods that are high in fibre such as fruit, vegetables, and any other plant based food. Meat doesn’t contain any fiber, so humans should eat meat very rarely, if at all, for our bodies to function optimally. Fiber in the diet allows for well formed poo that is easily passed.

Obesity, poor posture and muscle tone, and sitting for many hours a day, have all been identified as increasing the chances of hemorrhoids, due to the extra strain on blood vessels, and poor muscular quality. As noted above, a thrombosed hemorrhoid is the result of burst blood vessels, or blood clotting. A burst thrombosed hemorrhoid will bleed a bright red blood when wiped with toilet paper.

SYMPTOMS

Well, due to the definition of the prognosis, a major symptom of a thrombosed hemorrhoid, as opposed to a regular one, is the presence of blood. Blood will be noticeable in the underpants, but especially on toilet paper when wiping the anus after pooing. Another symptom of thrombosed hemorrhoids is stinging or burning around the anus, on the hemorrhoids, when in contact with sweat or water. This is due to the open nature of the wound, like a cut, and stings when washed using water, such as in the shower.

Further symptoms of thrombosed external hemorrhoids are the forming of a hard lump around the anus, as well as swelling. Discomfort and/or pain, in the affected area, is also a common symptom.

THROMBOSED HEMORRHOID TREATMENT

There are a few different methods that can be used to cure hemorrhoids, assuming they haven’t cleared up by themselves. Often the hemorrhoids will heal themselves, provided they aren’t thrown into an unbreakable cycle of getting cut open, or irritated, every time the anus is wiped after pooing, or as a result of the pooing process.

The best form of treatment is prevention, but of course this isn’t much good to someone who already has hemorrhoids. It will still, however, be advisable to change the practices that brought about the instance of hemorrhoids in the first place, as this will increase the chances of permanent removal.

The best treatment for thrombosed external hemorrhoids might end up being surgery. This requires the hemorrhoids to be cut out, any infections to be cleaned and treated, then the wound is stitched up again until it heals over. A common surgical procedure for treating chronic hemorrhoids is a Hemorrhoidectomy. However, pain during recovery is very severe, so it’s only recommended when all other forms of treatment have failed.

Another such form of treatment is ‘hemorrhoid banding’, otherwise known as ‘rubber band litigation’, whereby a rubber band is tied around the hemorrhoid in order to cut off blood supply to it until it ‘dies’ and falls off.

There are creams available that claim to treat hemorrhoids, but again, these are more effective in relieving the symptoms, as opposed to curing hemorrhoids.

CONCLUSIONS

Thrombosed hemorrhoids are not fun to have. The cause is not easily determinable, however a good diet as well as exercise (both of which promote well formed bowel movements) drastically reduces the chances of incurring hemorrhoids. Thrombosed hemorrhoid symptoms are often discomforting, such as itching, swelling, stinging, and tenderness around the anus, making it painful to poo, move freely, or even sit down. The precense of blood when pooing is a sign of a thrombosed hemorroid. Treatment for hemorrhoids are available, such as surgery, although, depending on the severity, hemorrhoids often clear up themselves without the need for extra treatment, simply with the passing of time, and/or the changing of diet.
