Before I list the most common treatments for cellulite, it is important to know what cellulite is and how it begins in the first place.

Cellulite occurs at the subcutaneous level, which is just below the skin. It is here that tiny fat pockets exist in a structure of fibrous tissue. These fibrous strands organize the fat panels into a honeycomb-like structure. If excess fat is build up, it starts to bulge from the honeycomb panels and this causes the skin on the outside to dimple. This dimpling – which is cellulite – can be made worse by age and a loss of collagen in the skin.

Many herbalists and naturopaths will recommend a natural treatment for cellulite that consists of planet ingredients like caffeine and seaweed. These two ingredients are said to assist the body in removing the fat from beneath the skin. While it is fairly easy to buy these ingredients from your local supermarket or health food store, people tend turn to certain anti cellulite creams that have them already compounded. These creams are fairly easy to use with most only requiring two applications per day.

A beautician or spa technician will usually offer cellulite treatments that utilize a specially constructed anti-cellulite machine. One example is Tri-Active which uses both suction massage and laser therapy to improve the look of the cellulite. The goal of the laser therapy is to improve the look of the skin through increased collagen. The suction massage is designed to help drain the liquid that tends to build up in the fat pockets under the skin.

Another machine treatment is Velasmooth. This machine combines laser and radio frequencies to target the honeycomb like structure beneath the skin. Velasmooth is well known to produce good results in many women.

These cellulite treatments are not cheap. A cellulite cream can range from $20 to $250. Sessions using the Velasmooth or Tri-Active machines can cost well over $100 each. Regardless of the treatment that you choose, it is important that you also have healthy diet and exercise program in place.
